Are you considering brow lift surgery to address a droopy brow or tired-looking eyes, but wondering what recovery looks like? Understanding what to expect after a brow lift can help you prepare and heal comfortably. Most patients return to light activities within a week, though full healing can take up to several weeks or longer.

At FlowMD Aesthetic Center & Ran Plastic Surgery in Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Cong Ivy Ran helps patients with issues related to skin laxity and guides them through each stage of the process. If you want to learn more about the procedure or what to expect in terms of brow lift results, call today for a consultation.

The first 24 hours after brow lift surgery

After we address your droopy brow through a brow lift, you'll be taken to a recovery area, where you will rest for a short period. You may feel groggy, and the treated area may feel tight or numb. Some swelling and bruising around the forehead and eyes are normal.

Before you leave, Dr. Ran will provide detailed instructions for caring for the area at home, including how to manage discomfort and when to clean the incisions.

You'll need someone to drive you home and stay with you for at least the first 24 hours. Plan to rest with your head elevated to minimize swelling.

The first few days of brow lift recovery

The first few days are the most critical for healing. Swelling and bruising will be noticeable, and you may experience mild discomfort or tightness around the brow and forehead. This is a normal part of the healing process.

Take prescribed pain medication as directed by Dr. Ran to manage discomfort. Apply cold compresses gently around the area to help reduce swelling. Most patients notice significant improvements by the end of the first week.

Weeks one to two: Gradual improvement

By the end of the first week, most patients feel well enough to return to light, nonstrenuous activities. Swelling and bruising will still be present but should begin to fade. Any stitches or staples are typically removed around this time, depending on the technique used.

You can usually return to work within 7 – 10 days if your job doesn't involve heavy lifting or physical exertion. Dr. Ran will schedule a follow-up appointment in Los Angeles, CA to check your progress.

Weeks three to six: Returning to normal

By week three, most swelling has subsided, and you'll start seeing your brow lift results more clearly. The brow will appear lifted, and tired-looking eyes will look more open and refreshed. Any residual numbness or tightness around the forehead should continue to improve.

You can typically resume exercise around 4 – 6 weeks post-surgery, though Dr. Ran will give you clearance based on your specific healing progress.

How long does recovery take?

Most patients feel back to normal within 4 – 6 weeks, though optimal results can take 3 – 6 months to fully appear as residual swelling resolves and the tissues settle into their new position. The timeline varies depending on the technique used, the extent of skin laxity addressed, and how well you follow post-operative care instructions.
