How Does Eyelid Surgery Work?
Blepharoplasty at FlowMD Aesthetic Center & Ran Plastic Surgery is usually performed with local anesthesia, though Dr. Ran can provide more advanced sedation if you prefer it and your health allows it. This treatment may be done on the upper eyelid alone, under or on the bottom eyelid, or a combination of both eyelids:
- Upper: Upper eyelid surgery assists in reducing loose skin that impairs vision to produce a more flattering look. An incision is usually made along the lid crease to remove skin and other tissues.
- Lower (with fat repositioning): Eyelid correction on the lower lid is performed to improve the appearance of eye bags, or the puffy skin under the lower lid. During this procedure, Dr. Ran will make an incision either inside the lower lid or just below the lash line to access the fat pads beneath the eyes. Any excess fat will be removed and repositioned to add fullness to the features around the eyes, resulting in a more proportional look.
- Incisional Asian blepharoplasty: Unlike most Western patients, Asian patients tend to have lower-lying fat pads and a smaller crease above the eye. Asian blepharoplasty takes these differences into account to address issues without impacting your natural look. During a full incisional Asian blepharoplasty, Dr. Ran removes skin and fat to create an enhanced crease shape and improve vision.
- Suture Asian blepharoplasty: This less invasive alternative is intended for Asians with monolids (no creases above the eyes). In this procedure, Dr. Ran makes tiny incisions on the eyelids and sutures them to create more of a fold. This option may be ideal for younger patients who want a shorter recovery time.
- Sub-brow lift: Sometimes called an infra-brow lift, the sub-brow lift is performed to remove excess skin above the upper lids through an incision made along the brow.
